De drie officiële landstalen.Ondertussen heb je een team van medewerkers dat zoveel mogelijk actueel nieuws sprokkelt?Equnews is ontstaan als een eenmansactie, op mijn initiatief, maar uiteraard was ik blij dat er anderen wilden aan mee- werken. Kristof de Pauw was bijvoorbeeld de eerste om me bij te staan. Vandaag is hij méér dan mijn rechterhand in dit project; hij is het nationale (Belgische) gezicht van Equnews. Wereldwijd zijn we nu aanwezig in tien landen verspreid over liefst drie continenten. In totaal werken momenteel dertig mensen mee aan ons project, sommige zijn freelance, andere vrijwilliger. Leuk is dat we via een goede communi- catie erin slagen als één grote groep samen te werken. De paardenwereld samen brengen is het uiteindelijke doel.Hoe zijn jullie internationaal georganiseerd? Verschilt de informatie van land tot land?Omdat we het zowel het lokaal als (inter)nationaal nieuws willen aanbieden, werken we steeds met ‘locals’. Elke Equnews-website is gemaakt op maat, elk land legt immers andere accenten. Zo ligt de focus in Amerika en China veel meer op fashion en lifestyle terwijl Frankrijk zich vooral toespitst op sportinterviews. Om alles te kunnen bolwerken is er een hiërarchie opgesteld, elke cluster van landen (bv. België, Nederland en Duitsland, Frankrijk, Noorwegen, China en USA, Canada en Verenigd Koninkrijk) heeft een verantwoordelijke. Hij/zij communiceert op constante basis met het team en andere verantwoordelijken. Om die com- municatie goed te laten verlopen, gebruiken we de sociale media. Die hebben we van bij de start ook gebruikt voor de promotie van Equnews.blog focusing on regional and national news reports. I did not want to limit myself to the Belgian student horse-riders, but I aimed at a larger audience, which is still the case today. Though virtually impossible, we mean to report on anything no matter which level. As this project grew up much more quickly than we had expected, the blog was actually restyled to a real news site at the turn of the years 2010-2011.Why a specific site for equestrianism and lifestyle?‘Why’ is a good question. The sport’s part of it is a logical con- sequence as it was an initiative for reporting on horse-riding. Lifestyle and fashion came on top, which has come out of my personal interests, to be honest. How big we are right now? We have more than 90,000 unique visitors on a daily base. We can proudly state that our Belgian website only counts some 19,000 unique daily visitors. Is this enough to call our- selves the biggest in Belgium? Hard to say, most probably we are. It is most important to me to emphasize that we are the only really Belgian site. We publish our news in Dutch, French and German, the three official languages of Belgium.In the mean time you have set up a team that gathers as much news as possible.Equnews took off as a one man action, I initiated it, but obvi- ously I was very glad to welcome more contributors. Kristof de Pauw was the first one to support me fully. Today he is my right-hand man on the project, the national (Belgian) face and anchor of Equnews. We are operating now worldwide in ten countries spread over three continents. In total there are some thirty contributors now, some free lance, others on a voluntary base. It is pleasant to be able to form a good working team through efficient communication. The ultimate goal is to bring people in the equestrian sport together.How are you organized internationally? Is there a difference in information from the various countries? Since we intend to offer local, national and international news, we always work with ‘locals’. Each Equnews website is custom made as each country has different accents. For example,the USA and China focus much more on fashion and life style whereas France concentrates on sport interviews. To cope with it all we have set up a hierarchy: each cluster of coun- tries, for instance Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany,
