136De fjordachtige Oostenrijkse Achensee groeide de jongste decennia uit tot een van de meest populaire vakantiebestemmingen in Tirol. De ‘zee van de Tirolers’ geniet echter al langere tijd van populariteit, want sinds 1887 kan je er plezierboottochtjes maken op het uitgestrekte meer, waaraan slechts een paar dorpjes liggen. Het noordelijke Achenkirch wist al die tijd zijn authentieke uitzicht te bewaren. De grote blikvanger in dit oord is ongetwijfeld het Posthotel Achenkirch. In menig opzicht een uniek hotel, vooral dan omdat het ook de grootste private Lippizanerstoeterij in de Europese Unie bezit. En dat alles is het werk van Karl J. Reiter, inmiddels 66, een hotelier met een missie.Het is een zonnige september zondagmiddag als we te gast zijn in het Posthotel Achenkirch. De receptioniste verwel- komt ons: ‘De familie verwacht u, ze zitten op het terras voor de jause.’ De begroeting is hartelijk. Karl J. Reiter is een rijzige persoon met blonde manen, zijn echtgenote Karin komt uit Keulen. Ook zijn volwassen kinderen schuiven mee aan voor de koffie met allerlei lekkere versnaperingen.KARL J. The ‘sea of the Tyroleans’ has been enjoying popular-ity for quite a long stretch of time as people in pleasure crafts have been cruising this vast lake since 1887. Only a few villages surround it. The most northernly village, Achenkirch, has preserved its authentic look until today. The great eye-catcher of the spot is the Posthotel Achen- kirch. It is a unique hotel in many ways, particularly because it hosts the largest stud-farm in the European Union. It is a realisation of Karl J. Reiter, 66, a hotelier with a mission.It is a sunny September Sunday afternoon. The reception-ist at the Posthotel Achenkirch is very friendly: ‘The family is waiting for you.
