Leon Melchior was very interested in science and supported me. I am very thankful to him for allowing and helping me to develop many new methods. I had to develop those radiographic photos by my own hands at home. Most vets would then send the bill and that was it. However, when I had noticed something aberrant, I wouldgo back to further examine the horse. I have done that for a very long time for free. Eventually my clients turned out very satisfied and said: ‘He can really look through the horse’. I admit the latter is not true. (laughs out loud) I observed those horses, how they moved and ran and I took it from there to learn a lot about them. I made deals with my clients: “If noth- ing is wrong, you don’t need to pay.” In that way you are able to prevent quite a lot of problems and you obtain better re- sults. Ik moest afbouwen en op een bepaald moment werkte ik nog uitsluitend voor de absolute toppers.De tijd die vrijkwam gebruikteje voor wat je het liefste doet: wetenschappelijk onderzoek. Studeren was altijd mijn passie. Ik ben zo geboren en zal zo sterven. Want, als je als veearts aan de top wilt blijven, moet je blijven studeren. Dat vormde ook de basis van mijn succes.
